The blend is primarily intended for lowering blood sugar levels and maintaining them at a normal level. The use of this herbal tea is recommended in the mild, early stages of type 2 diabetes. The effect of the mulberry leaf—which has been largely forgotten here but rediscovered by science—is the most complex: it inhibits the enzyme responsible for breaking down sugar and starch, and its aqueous extract has also been found to contain a component that creates insulin and boosts insulin production.
