Vegetable glycerin Ph. Eur 8., pharmaceutical grade, 200 ml. Used in cosmetics and around the home. It moisturizes and can be a raw material for water-based emulsions, creams, and soaps. Glycerin is produced in large quantities as a byproduct of the extraction from vegetable oils during soap making, as well as during biodiesel production. Pharmaceutical grade glycerin contains minimal water (0.1–0.2%) and 0% ash.
Its use is widespread; it is not only used in cosmetics, but is also frequently applied in the food industry. It is a sweet-tasting, colorless, odorless, viscous liquid. It can be found in products such as toothpaste and mouthwash. It is soluble in water and alcohol. It is easy to work with and is not heat-sensitive.
When added to cosmetics in the appropriate amount, it excellently moisturizes the skin (max. 5-10%). It also attracts water molecules from the air in high humidity, thus ensuring the preservation of skin moisture.
Usage suggestion: Use in cosmetics at a maximum of 5-10%, because due to its humectant effect, it can dry the skin from the inside if overdosed. It cannot be used on its own, only in preparations containing water!
Warning: Store in a cool place, in an airtight container.
