Iceland Moss - Cetraria islandica
It is used for intestinal diseases, to stop bleeding, for bronchitis, coughs, and thyroid hyperfunction due to its iodine content.
It is particularly suitable for treating dry coughs and the onset of flu infections, but it is also a proven remedy for indigestion, loss of appetite, or post-illness weakness.
Its active ingredient, due to the high plant mucilage content, is bitter lichen acid, which is also attributed with antibiotic properties. Official medicine recommends it for upper respiratory tract illnesses to suppress the cough reflex, but it is also suggested for any cold or infectious diseases due to its disinfectant effect.
Preparation: Pour 2.5 dl of boiling water over 1 heaping teaspoon of the tea blend and let it steep covered for 5 minutes. After straining, consume without flavoring, 2-3 cups daily as needed.
