Detailed product description

Carob powder is produced from the seeds of the carob tree's fruit by drying and grinding them. In colour and texture, it closely resembles cocoa, which is why it is mainly used as a substitute for it.

Unlike cocoa, carob powder does not cause problems for pets, which is why it is also often used to make treats.

Importance and effects:

Unlike cocoa, carob powder does not contain caffeine or theobromine, which can have unpleasant effects on sensitive individuals. Carob does not stimulate the digestive system but rather soothes it, so it may help alleviate symptoms in cases of diarrhoea. Carob powder has a sweeter taste than cocoa.

Carob powder has a very high fibre content and a much lower fat content than cocoa powder, so those wishing to lose weight should choose it when they want to prepare a light dessert.

Carob powder also contains antioxidants and important minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium and zinc.

Carob powder is gluten-free.

Use:

Carob powder can be used as a 1:1 substitute for cocoa in almost any recipe, either raw or heat-treated.
