It is still green behind the ears, but it is already the "father of all nutrients." This is the meaning of the name "alfalfa," which originates from Arab culture. A sprouting jar provides the best medium for growth. After soaking for 6–8 hours, the sprouts need at least 6 days to be ready for harvest (this is how long it takes for the plant's own antifeedant, canavanine, to break down).
