Knotgrass - Poligonii herba

Knotgrass contains silicic acid, tannins, vitamin C, resin, wax, fat, sugar, mucilage, trace amounts of essential oil, anthraquinone derivatives, and quercetin glycosides. Flavonols: avicularin, myricitrin, juglanin, astragalin, betmidin, lignan aviculin

It is widely used in Vietnam, mainly to make soup. Its tea is used for kidney and bladder ailments, enteritis, and bronchitis.

It is a safe and effective astringent and diuretic medicinal herb that can also be used to treat dysentery, hemorrhoids, and diarrhea.

Its silicic acid content strengthens connective tissue, which is why it can also be used for bronchitis. The whole plant is an anthelmintic, cholagogue, diuretic, antipyretic, hemostatic, and wound-healing agent.

Due to its diuretic effect, it can be useful in the removal of kidney stones. Alcohol-based preparations can be successfully used to treat varicose veins. The whole plant is anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, and emollient.

Externally, it is an excellent agent for stopping bleeding, such as nosebleeds. The seeds of the plant have emetic and laxative effects.

Preparation: Pour 2.5 dl of boiling water over 1 level teaspoon of knotgrass. Let it steep for 5-10 minutes, then strain and drink. It is recommended to drink 1-2 cups daily.

For compresses and washing: Add 3 tablespoons of knotgrass to 1 liter of water. Apply after straining and cooling to a lukewarm temperature.
