Detailed product description
Quinoa is a plant native to South America; while not classified as a cereal grain, its usage and nutritional profile are similar. The Incas revered it as the "mother of all grains" and used it not only for food but also for ceremonial purposes. Following the arrival of the conquerors, its production almost entirely ceased, and it has only been rediscovered in the last few decades. Quinoa seeds are covered in a special substance called saponin, which serves to keep insects and birds away (a natural defense). This protective layer has a slightly bitter taste, so it is recommended to wash the seeds thoroughly before use.
Quinoa has a high protein content with a favorable amino acid composition, being rich in essential amino acids such as methionine, lysine, and cystine. Its fiber content has a beneficial effect on bowel function and helps alleviate constipation. Quinoa is rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and phosphorus. It also contains B vitamins and vitamin E.
It is worth incorporating quinoa into the diet for those with diabetes, insulin resistance, or cardiovascular problems, as well as for those trying to lose weight or suffering from migraines and digestive issues. Since quinoa is gluten-free, it also has a place in a gluten-free diet.
It can be consumed mixed into muesli, or used to make cakes, cookies, and energy bars.
