Detailed product description
Oats are an exceptionally valuable grain, high in protein and fiber. They retain their nutritional value even after being rolled. Easy to prepare and versatile, it is no wonder they have become and remained one of the most popular breakfast dishes in English-speaking countries, nor is it surprising that they have also been growing in popularity in Hungary in recent years. They simply never get boring!
Rolled oats are made from carefully selected whole oat grains. Contrary to their name, they are not flaked; they are produced by steaming and then flattening the grains, so all the valuable nutrients remain in the rolled oats and, unlike other grain flakes, they do not rapidly raise blood sugar levels.
Although oats and products made from them do not contain gluten, they are often grown and processed together with wheat, rye, and barley, so they can easily become contaminated with gluten. If you have gluten sensitivity, it is worth buying rolled oats labeled gluten-free.
Interesting fact: In the United States, October 29 was designated National Oatmeal Day to draw people's attention to the beneficial health effects of their favorite breakfast food.
Significance and effects: Rolled oats contain mostly complex carbohydrates, which are absorbed slowly and do not cause a sudden rise in blood sugar levels. The proteins and fiber also help with this, so rolled oats can be consumed in case of blood sugar problems. Thanks to their high fiber content, rolled oats help prevent constipation and reduce the likelihood of developing colon cancer, while water-soluble fibers called beta-glucans play an important role in lowering blood cholesterol levels. Another benefit is that fiber increases the feeling of fullness, delaying the time of the next meal and reducing the portion size consumed. This beneficial property of rolled oats is worth taking advantage of when dieting.
Rolled oats contain several active compounds that play a role in lowering blood pressure, so they are worth incorporating into the diet in cases of high blood pressure, especially when weight loss is also needed. The antioxidants in oats help relieve itching and reduce inflammation, and also contribute to healthy-looking skin.
Use: They are most commonly eaten as porridge, and almost everyone has their own favorite, fastest, simplest method and flavoring that requires the least washing up. One serving is approximately 25–30 g of rolled oats, which should be cooked in one and a half to twice as much water or plant-based milk for 5–10 minutes, stirring continuously. Another simple method is to soak them overnight in the same amount of liquid and warm them up in the morning. The only limit to the flavoring is your imagination: they can be prepared sweet or savory, with dried or fresh fruit, coconut chips, carob powder, or eaten plain.
Rolled oats are also frequently used to make cakes and cookies, but when soaked, they can be mixed into meatloaf or fillings and can also be used for breading.
